About the Park
Akami−Uapishkᵘ−KakKasuak−Mealy Mountains National Park Reserve, located in central Labrador, encompasses a diverse landscape of boreal forests, tundra, fjords, and over 50 kilometers of shoreline along the Labrador Sea and Lake Melville. It is the largest national park in eastern Canada, protecting a variety of wildlife including the threatened Mealy Mountains woodland caribou herd, wolves, black bears, and healthy populations of wild Atlantic salmon. The park holds significant cultural importance for the Innu, Inuit, and other Indigenous communities.

History
Established in 2015, the park represents a collaborative effort to preserve the ecological and cultural heritage of the Mealy Mountains region. It serves as a sanctuary for numerous species and a testament to the area's rich Indigenous history.
Landscapes
The park features glacially-rounded, bare rock summits reaching up to 1,180 meters overlooking Lake Melville, pristine mountain tundra, marine coasts, boreal forests, islands, and rivers. These diverse ecosystems provide habitats for a wide range of boreal species.
Wildlife
Inhabited by a variety of wildlife, the park is home to the threatened Mealy Mountains woodland caribou herd, wolves, black bears, marten, two species of fox, and healthy populations of wild Atlantic salmon.
Activities
Visitors can engage in backcountry hiking, wildlife observation, and cultural experiences. Due to limited infrastructure and services, visitors must register with Parks Canada before entering the park.
