Park Location
History
Established in 1970, Forillon was the first national park in Quebec. The area has a rich history, with the Mi'gmaq people inhabiting the region for thousands of years. In the 18th century, European settlers established fishing villages along the coast. The creation of the park led to the expropriation of local residents, a controversial chapter acknowledged by Parks Canada.
Landscapes
The park features a diverse range of landscapes, including rugged cliffs, dense forests, salt marshes, sand dunes, and the northern tip of the Appalachian Mountains. Notable viewpoints like Cap Bon-Ami offer panoramic vistas of the Gulf of St. Lawrence.
Wildlife
Forillon is home to a variety of wildlife, including black bears, moose, red foxes, and over 225 bird species such as peregrine falcons and great horned owls. Marine mammals like seals and several whale species, including minke and humpback whales, can be observed along the coast.
Activities
Visitors can engage in numerous activities such as hiking on trails like Les Graves and Mont-Saint-Alban, whale watching tours, sea kayaking, camping, and exploring historical sites like the Grande-Grave fishing village and Fort Peninsula.
